Music In Schools
I remember when I was at school (not long ago) when we had music classes we would simply rush in and bash the nearest instruments in sight. In fact I remember them simply handing out things like tambourines one lesson and we literally spent the whole hour doing nothing but smashing these about. The thing is, I was actually in a higher class for music so I have no idea what some of the lower ones got up to.
Of course when it got to high school not much changed because none of us had learnt how to play any instruments in elementary school! A lot of teachers and governors feel that letting kids simply bag on instruments is great and they really enjoy it. People forget that to be able to play one of those electric guitars or even acoustic guitars you are best learning at a very young age indeed.
Unless you have money it is actually very hard to be able to do this and this is why governments need to put more spending in music classes and get proper instruments in place rather than the very boring tambourine and triangle. I remember the only time that I ever got excited during any of my music classes was when the rainmaker came out, and that is incredibly rubbish to use!
I am almost 20 now and I really wish I could take back time and learn how to play guitars or an instrument that doesn't make you look like an idiot when you are using it like the recorder. I do not understand why schools actually bother teaching such a pointless instrument to many students!
Music is a great way of actually keeping children under control too so why not put more budgets into it all?
It is safe to say that the government really does need to sort this one out.
