Should A Gay Couple Start A Family?

Do you think a gay couple should be able to have children and raise a family? What if they are financially secure and in an established gay relationship, perhaps even legally married? I do not know your answer to this question but I am willing to bet that whether you are gay or not, you have an opinion on the matter.

Thousands of couples in steady relationships yearn to become gay parents just like heterosexual couples that have set up home together. However, unlike heterosexual couples, a gay couple first has to confront the challenge of other people's point of view on the issue.

It is generally considered perfectly normal for a heterosexual couple to want to have a family. If they have been together long enough they are often questioned why they don't have children yet. A heterosexual couple can easily go for help if they face issues of infertility.

The matter is a little easier for a lesbian couple than a homosexual couple because there exists the possibility for one of the lesbian partners to biologically conceive herself. Many lesbian couple tackle the problem with artificial insemination with the aid of a donor sperm or they can go for IVF treatment in which theirs or a donor egg is implanted after being fertilized outside of the body.

Two males in a homosexual relationship will have more challenges to face if they want to have a child. They have two options which they may pursue. The first is surrogate motherhood. Either of the gay males can have his sperm artificially inseminated into a woman who voluntarily chooses to bare the child for them. A male gay couple can also think about adoption but as this usually requires approval by some external agencies they sometimes have to overcome barriers of prejudice before this is successful.
